Expression and significance of MEIS1 in the endometrial adenocarcinoma

  • Objective To investigate the expression and clinical significance of myeloid ecotropic viral integration site 1 (MEIS1) in the endometrial adenocarcinoma. Methods The diseased endometrial tissues were collected from 45 patients with endometrial adenocarcinoma (endometrial adenocarcinoma group) and normal endometrial tissues were obtained from 12 patients with non-endometrial lesions (control group). The positive rate of MEIS1 in two groups was detected by immunohistochemical staining. The correlation between MEIS1 protein, clinicopathological features, estrogen receptor (ER) and progesterone receptor (PR) in the endometrial adenocarcinoma group was analyzed. Results MEIS1 protein was mainly expressed in the nuclei of glandular epithelial cells in the endometrial adenocarcinoma tissues. The positive expression rate of MEIS1 protein in the endometrial adenocarcinoma group was significantly higher than that in the control group (P < 0.05). In the endometrial adenocarcinoma tissues, MEIS1 expression was not correlated with the differentiation grade of adenocarcinoma cells, stages, myometrial infiltration, lymph node metastasis or organic metastasis (all P > 0.05), whereas it was significantly associated with the expression of ER and PR (both P < 0.05). Conclusions MEIS1 is highly expressed in endometrial adenocarcinoma, which is associated with ER and PR expression. In addition, MEIS1 might be involved with the pathogenesis of endometrial adenocarcinoma.
