Abstract
Objective To evaluate the feasibility of pelvic control training-based rehabilitation therapy for hereditary spastic paraplegia (HSP). Methods One case of HSP receiving pelvic control training-based physical rehabilitation was reported. Clinical data related to rehabilitation therapy for HSP patients were retrieved from PudMed, CNKI, SinoMed, Wanfang Data and Chongqing VIP databases by using the searching words of “hereditary spastic paraplegia” and “rehabilitation therapy” both in Chinese and English. Results In this article, a 40-year-old male patient presenting with progressive walking difficulty for over 10 years and aggravated symptoms was diagnosed with HSP. He was untreated with muscle tension-reducing drug therapy and subsequently transferred to department of rehabilitation medicine for rehabilitation treatment. After receiving a rehabilitation regime based on pelvic control training for consecutive 4 weeks, the balance and walking ability of this patient were significantly improved. A total of 5 HSP patients receiving different rehabilitation therapies were retrieved, and 4 of them obtained varying degree of improvement. Conclusions Pelvic control training-based rehabilitation regime can effectively enhance the quality of life of HSP patients. Individualized rehabilitation interventions contribute to improving the quality of life of HSP patients.
